WMST Positions & Duties

This position is a work study position.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Answer and direct all phone calls to the appropriate person
2. Check general WGST email multiple times during your shift and forward relevant emails
a. Program Assistants will be required to check the email account for social media and marketing related tasks. Center Mentors will be in charge of forwarding questions and potential department information to the correct faculty member.
3. Complete required opening and closing tasks:
a. Maintain the cleanliness and order of the space
b. Ensure keys, office supplies, iPad, sign and other equipment is accounted for and secured before leaving the space
c. Check the flyers that are hung in the space and remove any that are outdated
4. Actively welcome people into the space
a. Maintain a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff
b. Greet new and returning visitors
5. Address the needs of visitors:
a. Answer questions or direct them to the appropriate person
b. Have a working knowledge of Center events and programming
c. Encourage visitors to stay and explore the Center by getting to know their reason for coming, if they have visited before, and engaging with them by showing them around the space
6. Complete semester course presentations
a. Design flyers for upcoming WGST courses
b. Deliver course presentations with a short verbal description of each course
7. Maintain the library
a. Check books in and out for visitors
b. Catalog and shelve new books according to the Library of Congress system
8. Make copies and scan documents for faculty and staff
9. Maintain, encourage, and facilitate the core values of the Center
a. Support peers and student Center visitors by providing respectful, constructive feedback where appropriate, completing assigned tasks in a timely manner, and equitably distributing unassigned work load
b. Responsibly engage and educate visitors on topics relevant to WGST
c. Manage difficult conversations in a respectful manner
d. Challenge yourself and look to propose improvements to existing Center systems
e. Model an inclusive, feminist space
10. Enforce Center policies (printing, TV programming, book check-out, etc.)
11. Distribute mail to faculty or the appropriate mailbox
12. Design flyers hung in the Center and hang flyers given from other campus offices
